Q – Why should I use Password Lock?
A – Simply because we all have a huge amount of passwords and codes to remember everiday, and some of them are very important ones, as they are related to very important services (bank account, Mail) and therefore required an utmost security degree. Keeping all our password in mind is impossible, writing them on a paper or electonic sheet is dangerous and using the same password for all circumstances can be catastrophic. Password Lock is therefore a simple solutions to all the abovementioned problems.

Q – What characteristics must have the main file password (file decryption key)?
A – The main file password (file decryption key) is very important as it allows you to access your passwords file. It must be very strong and easy to remember at the same time, otherwise you will not decrypt your data any more. See the next FAQ for more information about a strong password generation rules.

Q – When can we consider a password strong?
A – The password control systems is set up with the following guidelines:

  • passwords must have a number of characters between 8 and 16;
  • no spaces are allowed;
  • one character at least must be numeric;
  • one character at least must be a symbol;
  • one character at least must be a lower case letter;
  • one character at least must be an upper case letter;
  • Sets of more than three numbers are not allowed;
  • Four equal characters are not allowed;

Q – Why is the background colour of password inserting field red?
A – Because the password quality control system has detected that the inserted password is quite weak.

A – Because the password quality control system has detected that the inserted password is strong.

Q – Is it safe to copy a password in the clipboard?
A – It is always advisable not to copy a password in the clipboard as it can be read by any App/Software. It is better to copy only User ID and digit the Password, as it is much more complicated to detect it from the keyboard than reading it out of clipboard;

Q – Why did you choose Dropbox instead of Google Drive?
A – Dropbox offers an easier management of the App, as well as a better control over the autorizations to access shared data (managed by Dropbox console). Moreover Dropbox provides an official “client” software for Linux (as well as for Windows and MacOsX), whereas Google Drive does not.

Q – I have forgotten the main file password (file decryption key) and cannot therefore access my data. What can I do?
A – Unfortunately nothing as only the main password allows you to access your data: this method, on the contrary, guarantees their security!

Q – Can I change the main file password (file decryption key)?
A – Of course: once the file is opened there is a menu with an option to change the main file password;

Q – Should I accidentally cancel the file can I somehow retrieve it?
A – Unfortunately not. We therefore advise you always to make a back up of it.

Q – Is it advisable to keep a data back up option always enabled?
A – Yes, as you may delete or change a password entry by accident, and without a back-up it would be lost for good.

ANDROID APP FAQS

Q – How can I add a category (grouping)?
A – click long on All categories or any other category key (row label), then select the menu item. One can also use the menu item of the Action Bar.

Q – How can I delete or modify a category?
A – click long on the category key (row label) you want to delete/modify, then select the menu item.

Q – How can I add a password entry?
A – click long on any row of the password list, then select the menu item. One can also use the menu item of the ActionBar.

Q – How can I delete or modify a password entry?
A – click long on the password row you want to delete/modify, then select the menu item.

Q – How can I transfer my files on another device?
A – The easiest solution is to create the files on Dropbox, so that you can access them from any device. You can also create a copy of them. Next FAQ will indicate where files are located.

Q – Where will the password files stored?
A – They are stored in the “PasswordLock” folder, in the SD card of your device (or in a simulated SD card in case of devices without SD);

DESKTOP SOFTWARE FAQS

Q – How can I access from Desktop App to shared data on Dropbox?
A – First of all you have to download the official Dropbox client (you can do it while loggin- in to Dropbox, but also later). At first starting you will be asked for access credentials, then a Dropbox folder will be created in your own Documents folder (in Linux home). Inside it you will find a folder named “applications” and a subfolder “PasswordLock” where the files synced to the Android App will be stored.
For Windows the final path will be “Document\Dropbox\applications\PasswordLock”
For Linux the final path will be “/home/your name/DropBox/applications/PasswordLock”.
